The Korean Society for Translation and Interpreting (hereinafter referred to as the “Society”) places great importance on the protection of personal information and complies with the provisions of the Personal Information Protection Act of the Republic of Korea. This Privacy Policy explains how personal information provided by users is collected, used, managed, and protected.

1. Personal Information Collected
The Society collects only the minimum personal information necessary for membership management, academic activities, journal publication, and scholarly exchange. Optional information may be omitted without affecting access to basic services.

2. Purpose of Processing Personal Information
The Society processes personal information solely for the following purposes:
- Organization and administration of academic lectures and conferences
- Scholarly exchange and academic networking
- Publication and distribution of journals, books, and other academic materials.
Personal information will not be used for any purpose other than those stated above without prior consent from the data subject.

3. Retention and Processing Period
Personal information will be retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected. Personal information will be permanently deleted without delay when:
- A member withdraws from the Society;
- A request for deletion of personal information is submitted; or
- The purpose of collection and use has been fulfilled.
Information will be destroyed using methods that prevent recovery or restoration.

4. Destruction of Personal Information
Once the purpose of processing has been achieved or the retention period has expired, personal information will be destroyed immediately.
- Electronic records will be deleted using technical methods that prevent recovery.
- Printed documents containing personal information will be shredded or incinerated.

5. Rights of Users and Legal Representatives
When collecting personal information from children under the age of 14, the Society obtains prior consent from their legal representative. For this purpose, the Society may collect the minimum information necessary regarding the legal representative, such as name and contact information.
Legal representatives may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the child's personal information.

6. Disclosure of Personal Information
As a general rule, the Society does not disclose personal information to third parties. Exceptions may be made in the following circumstances:
- When prior consent has been obtained from the user;
- When disclosure is required by applicable laws and regulations; or when requested by investigative authorities in accordance with lawful procedures.

7. Entrustment of Personal Information Processing
The Society does not outsource the processing of personal information to external organizations without the consent of the data subject.
Should such outsourcing become necessary in the future, the Society will provide advance notice regarding the entrusted party and the scope of the entrusted work and will obtain consent where required by law.

8. Rights and Obligations of Data Subjects
Data subjects may withdraw their consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information at any time.
Data subjects also have the right to:
- Access their personal information;
- Request correction of inaccurate information;
- Request suspension of processing; and
- Request deletion of personal information.
Requests may be submitted in writing, by telephone, or by fax to the Privacy Officer. The Society will take appropriate measures without delay.
